How do I create GTFS data?
Getting Started
- Create all the required files described in the GTFS Schedule reference. Create the optional files if their functionality is desired.
- Save all files in the . txt format.
- Zip all the text files together. The zipped file comprises a version of the feed.
- Publish the feed by using one of the options below.
What is GTFS General Transit Feed Specification?
The General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) is a data specification that allows public transit agencies to publish their transit data in a format that can be consumed by a wide variety of software applications. Today, the GTFS data format is used by thousands of public transport providers.
How is GTFS data collected?
A GTFS feed is composed of a series of text files collected in a ZIP file. Each file models a particular aspect of transit information: stops, routes, trips, and other schedule data. The details of each file are defined in the GTFS reference. An example feed can be found in the GTFS examples.
Is GTFS free?
GTFS Builder is a free Microsoft Excel-based web application which assists rural and tribal transit agencies to develop and generate fully valid GTFS for their bus routes.
What is GTFS Flex?
GTFS-Flex is a proposed extension to the General Transit Feed Specification (“GTFS”), a data standard that organizes transit schedule data into formats that are transferable between online systems—most notably trip planning apps.
Who owns GTFS?
GTFS, a leading Business Solutions provider company in the Gulf, was founded in 1997 under the prestigious Bin Zayed Group chaired by Sheikh Khalid Bin Zayed Al Nehayan.
What is the history of GTFS?
History. What was to become GTFS started out as a side project of Google employee Chris Harrelson in 2005, who “monkeyed around with ways to incorporate transit data into Google Maps when he heard from Tim and Bibiana McHugh, married IT managers at TriMet, the transit agency for Portland, Oregon”.
