Volcom Romer Backpack Rinsed Black – Is It Worth Buying?
ReviewVolcom Romer Backpack: My New Favorite Sidekick for City Life
Okay, confession time: I’m a bag addict. As a blogger and journalist constantly juggling deadlines and locations, I’ve gone through more backpacks than I care to admit. I need something that can haul my gear, look decent enough for a press event, and not kill my back in the process. So, when I stumbled upon the Volcom Romer Backpack, I was cautiously optimistic. Now? I’m hooked.
Right off the bat, the Romer just looks good. The “Rinsed Black” is subtle but stylish – it doesn’t scream “look at me,” but it’s definitely got a cool, understated vibe. Whether I’m rocking a blazer or my usual jeans-and-a-tee combo, it just fits.
But let’s be real, looks aren’t everything. What really sold me on this bag is how darn practical it is. Four compartments? Perfect balance. Not too many that I lose my keys in a black hole, but enough to keep things organized. The main section easily swallows my laptop (thank goodness for that padded sleeve!), a notebook, and whatever book I’m currently pretending to read.
And that insulated front compartment? Genius. Seriously, game-changer. I can stash a cold drink or a snack without turning my bag into a swamp. Just last week, I was covering an outdoor festival in what felt like a million degrees, and that little insulated pocket kept my water bottle icy cold. Total lifesaver.
The smaller pockets are perfect for stashing the usual suspects: phone, wallet, pens, the works. And I’m a big fan of the soft, tricot-lined pocket up top – perfect for keeping my sunglasses scratch-free.
Now, comfort. This is where a lot of bags fail, but the Romer actually delivers. The padded shoulder straps are adjustable, and the back panel is made of this breathable mesh stuff. Even when I’m lugging around my entire mobile office, it doesn’t feel like I’m carrying a ton of bricks. I even took it on a weekend trip recently, crammed with clothes, my laptop, and all the usual junk, and it was surprisingly comfy.
At 26L, it’s the Goldilocks of backpacks – not too big, not too small. The dimensions are roughly 12 x 6 x 19 inches, and it weighs in at just over 1.5 pounds. Basically, it won’t weigh you down, which is a huge win in my book.
The Good Stuff:
- Looks sharp and understated
- Tough as nails construction
- Seriously comfy, even when fully loaded
- Smart organization, including that awesome insulated pocket
- Laptop sleeve for peace of mind
Nitpicks:
- Might be a tad small if you’re planning a major backpacking trip (but for everyday use, it’s spot on)
- I wish the product description specified what the bag is made from!
The Bottom Line:
The Volcom Romer Backpack has earned a permanent spot in my daily life. It’s stylish, practical, comfortable, and built to last. Whether you’re a student, a busy professional, or just someone who needs a reliable bag for everyday adventures, give the Romer a shot. You might just find your new favorite sidekick.
