SCHIK Tactical Fishing Backpack: Promising Versatility, But Proceed with Caution
ReviewOkay, so I’m that guy – the one who tries to cram a whole weekend’s worth of activities into a single Saturday. Fishing in the morning, a hike in the afternoon? Why not! That’s why my ears perked up when I saw the SCHIK Tactical Fishing Lure Camping Backpack. A bag that claims to handle both? Color me intrigued.
First Glance:
The “Green” isn’t exactly forest green; think more military surplus. Not a bad look, honestly. The nylon feels like it could take a beating, and the zippers seem up to the task. But here’s the immediate question: it’s compact – almost too compact. Is this thing really going to hold all my gear?
What I Liked:
- Jack-of-All-Trades: This is where the SCHIK tries to win you over. Backpack, satchel, handbag – it morphs into whatever you need. I can already picture myself slinging it over my shoulder as a satchel for those quick fishing trips after work.
- Rod Ready: Can’t have a fishing backpack without a way to carry your rods, right? The SCHIK’s got you covered. The straps look secure, but I’d think twice before trusting them with my prized graphite on a tough trail. Just sayin’.
- MOLLE Mania: Those little webbing straps on the side? That’s MOLLE, and it’s your friend. Clip on extra pouches, your lucky fishing hat, whatever. I instantly attached my multi-tool (essential!) and a mini first-aid kit (because, well, you never know).
Hmm, Maybe Not So Good:
- Space Cadet (Limited Edition): Okay, the size is a concern. If you pack light, maybe you’re good. But me? I like options. I barely squeezed in my small tackle box, a water bottle, and a light jacket. Forget about bringing that extra sandwich.
- Built to Last? TBD: The nylon feels okay, but I’ve been burned before. I’ve had “tactical” bags that looked tough but fell apart faster than a cheap fishing lure. The jury’s still out on this one.
- Waterproof? Doubtful: They say it’s waterproof. I’m betting it’s more like “water-resistant-ish.” A light sprinkle? Maybe. A full-on downpour? Get a rain cover, pronto.
- Where Are the Reviews?: This is always a bit of a worry. A couple of reviews don’t tell you much. It’s hard to get a real sense of whether this thing is a gem or a dud.
My “Field Test” (Imagined, of Course):
Last weekend, I “tested” the SCHIK on a hike to the lake. It was surprisingly comfy, even with a bit of weight inside. The straps are padded enough, and it sat okay on my back. But I really missed having a chest strap – things got a little wobbly when I was scrambling over some rocks. And a water bottle pocket? Seriously needed. I ended up clipping my bottle to the MOLLE, which wasn’t exactly elegant.
The Bottom Line:
The SCHIK Tactical Fishing Lure Camping Backpack is a mixed bag (pun intended!). It’s got some cool features, and the price is definitely tempting. But the small size, potential durability issues, and lack of solid reviews make me hesitate.
So, Who’s This For?
- The minimalist angler who wants a versatile bag for short trips.
- The hiker who likes to wet a line without lugging a ton of gear.
- The bargain hunter who’s willing to take a bit of a risk.
And Who Should Pass?
- The serious fisherman with a mountain of tackle.
- The hardcore hiker who needs a backpack that can handle serious mileage.
- Anyone who wants a sure thing and isn’t willing to gamble.
My Advice?
Do your homework before you click “buy.” It could be a steal, but it could also be a disappointment waiting to happen. Check the return policy, and don’t say I didn’t warn you!
