Right click the layer in the Layers Panel then click the Open Attribute Table menu option. Click the Toggle Editing Mode button. Click the New Field button. Input the field’s Name, Type, and Length, then click the OK button.

How do I update an existing field in QGIS?

In quick field calculation bar, you simply need to:

  1. select the existing field name in the drop-down list.
  2. fill the textbox with an expression you directly write or build using the expression button.
  3. and click on [Update All], [Update Selected] or [Update Filtered] button according to your need.
