Ditch the Spreadsheet, Unleash the Maps: Turning Excel Data into a Batch of Stunning PDFs

Ever found yourself drowning in a sea of Excel rows, desperately wishing you could see your data instead of just staring at numbers? If you’re in logistics, urban planning, or even environmental science, you know the struggle. Location data is gold, but it’s often buried in spreadsheets. The good news? You can transform that data into a series of map PDFs, each spotlighting a specific location. Think of it as turning boring data into a vibrant, visual story.

The big hurdle is bridging the gap between rows and columns and actual, you know, maps. Sure, Excel has rudimentary mapping, but let’s be honest, it’s not exactly winning any design awards. What we really need is a way to automatically churn out individual, high-quality maps perfect for reports, presentations, or even just getting a better handle on your data. We’re talking about a process that can:

  • Read the Data: Use pandas to load your Excel file into a DataFrame.
  • Find the Coordinates (If Needed): If you’re starting with addresses, you’ll need to geocode them. Libraries like geopy can help you tap into services like the Google Maps API or Geocodio. Just watch out for those API usage limits!
