How do you smooth a polygon in ArcMap?

You can smooth a feature by using the Smooth command on the Advanced Editing toolbar or the Smooth Line geoprocessing tool or Smooth Polygon geoprocessing tool.

Smoothing a feature (Smooth)

  1. Click the Edit tool. on the Editor toolbar and click the feature.
  2. Click Smooth.
  3. Type the maximum allowable offset.
  4. Click OK.

How do you fix overlapping polygons in ArcGIS?

Removing overlaps from existing polygons

  1. Select the polygon feature whose border you want to maintain. The other polygon will be clipped back to match it.
  2. Click the Editor menu and click Clip.
  3. Set the buffer distance to 0 and choose to discard the area that intersects.
  4. Click OK.

How do you reshape shapefile in ArcGIS?

Tip:

  1. Click the Edit tool.
  2. Click the feature you want to reshape.
  3. Click the Reshape Feature tool.
  4. Click the map to create a line according to the way you want the feature reshaped.
  5. To change the shape of the sketch segment, click a construction method type on the Editor toolbar or on the Feature Construction mini toolbar.

How do you reshape a polygon in ArcGIS?

Reshaping a polygon to match another feature

  1. Click the Edit tool.
  2. Select the polygon you want to reshape.
  3. Click the Reshape Feature tool.
  4. Click Trace.
  5. Click the line or polygon edge you want to use to update the shape of the original polygon and trace along it.

What is polygon buffering?

A ‘polygon buffer’ is a zone that encompasses the contours of a polygon’s perimeter. Buffer around point features. Buffer around line features.

What is smooth polygon?

Each smoothed polygon may have more vertices than its source polygon. The Smoothing Tolerance parameter controls the length of a moving path used in calculating the new vertices. The shorter the length, the more detail that will be preserved and the longer the processing time.

Why are my elements overlapping?

Elements can overlap for a variety of reasons, for instance, relative positioning has nudged it over something else. Negative margin has pulled the element over another. Absolutely positioned elements overlap each other.

How do you know if a polygon is overlapping?

That said, if by polygons overlapping you mean at least one point of one is inside the other, you can test each polygon’s point against the others by either looking at the point in point polygon problem or checking each polygons lines to see if it cuts across another polygon.

How do you fix overlapping intervals?

A simple approach is to start from the first interval and compare it with all other intervals for overlapping, if it overlaps with any other interval, then remove the other interval from the list and merge the other into the first interval. Repeat the same steps for the remaining intervals after the first.

How do you smooth out contours in ArcMap?

How To: Smooth contour lines in ArcGIS Pro

  1. Select the contour feature layer from the Input Features drop-down list.
  2. Provide a name for Output Feature Class, and click Browse.
  3. Select the smoothing algorithm method for the contour lines from the Smoothing Algorithm drop-down list.

How do you make a buffer around a polygon?

Open the Intersect (Analysis) geoprocessing tool from ArcToolbox, Analysis Tools > Overlay > Intersect. Set the input to the polygon shapefile and the BufferA (result from the buffer) shapefile. Set the output location and name (‘IntersectA’ for this example). Click OK.

How do you smooth vertices?

Select the area you want to smooth by holding down “Shift” and selecting the vertices or faces. Click the left mouse button and drag it to smooth the selected area. If desired, adjust the “Smoothing”, “Repeat”, and “Axes” settings in the Smooth Vertices panel, which pops up after you click the Smooth tool.
