JEKYQ Water Shoes: Bright Stars for Your Beach Adventures (Maybe a Little Too Bright?)
ReviewOkay, confession time: I’m a sucker for anything that promises to make my outdoor adventures easier. So, when I kept seeing those JEKYQ Water Shoes – you know, the ones with the seriously bright stars – all over my Insta feed, I had to give them a shot. My recent kayaking trip down the Harpeth seemed like the perfect testing ground. Did they live up to the hype? Let’s dive in (pun intended!).
First off, let’s talk looks. These shoes are… well, they’re not exactly subtle. I went with the blue and pink starburst design, and let me tell you, I felt like I was channeling some kind of aquatic superhero. If you’re the type who prefers to blend in, these are probably not for you. Personally, I’m still on the fence about whether I love them or if they’re a fashion disaster waiting to happen.
But hey, performance is what really matters, right? And in that department, the JEKYQs actually surprised me. The material really does dry quickly. I took a couple of unplanned swims while trying to launch my kayak (graceful, I am not!), and my feet were practically dry before I even got to the first bend in the river. Plus, the rubber soles gave me a decent grip on the slippery rocks. I wouldn’t wear these for a serious hike, but for wading and protecting your feet from hot sand and sharp shells? They do the trick.
One thing I really appreciated was the thickness of the sole. I’ve had water shoes that were basically glorified socks, and every pebble felt like a medieval torture device. The JEKYQs actually provided a nice cushion, which was a welcome relief.
Now, about the fit… I’d say they run a little small. I’m usually a size 7, and I kinda wish I’d ordered a half-size up. They were snug, but not uncomfortably so. Still, if you’re between sizes, I’d definitely recommend going bigger.
So, the million-dollar question: would I recommend these starry wonders?
The Good Stuff:
- Seriously quick-drying.
- Surprisingly good sole protection.
- Lightweight – you barely know you’re wearing them.
- Budget-friendly – always a win!
The Not-So-Good Stuff:
- Those designs are… bold. (Understatement of the year.)
- Sizing is a bit wonky.
- Not built for anything beyond light water activities.
My Final Take?
If you’re after a fun, functional, and cheap pair of water shoes for splashing around and don’t mind making a statement, then yeah, give the JEKYQs a whirl. Just be prepared to embrace your inner rockstar… or at least your inner extra. And for the love of all that is comfortable, double-check that size chart before you click “buy”! You’ve been warned!
