What is a DN value in a satellite image?

Each pixel also has a numerical value, called a digital number (DN), that records the intensity of electromagnetic energy measured for the ground resolution cell represented by that pixel. Digital numbers range from zero to some higher number on a gray scale.

How do I remove clouds from satellite images?

Detection of cloud in satellite imagery is done based on the pixel intensity (PI) value, and cloud removal is done by merging the spatial details of one subject image and two reference image having same location. This process is applied for whole subject image to obtain a cloud-free image.
 

How do you convert DN to radiance?

TOA Spectral Radiance = (0.0003342 * B10) + (0.1)



Click OK and the new layer will be created. See the difference. DN number is reflected by 5 digit numbers, then the radiance is in a smaller range of number.

Radiance includes the radiation reflected from the surface, in addition to the radiation that bounces in from neighboring pixels, and the radiation reflected from clouds.

Is it possible to remove clouds?

The technology is called “cloud bursting” (or “cloud seeding“) or using a chemical called silver iodide to “seed” the clouds and cause them to rain. By inducing rain and cloud dissipation for 24 hours before the wedding day, the team can guarantee a relatively cloud free and sunny environment on the day of.
 

Why do clouds appear white on satellite images?

VISIBLE IMAGERY: Visible satellite pictures can only be viewed during the day, since clouds reflect the light from the sun. On these images, clouds show up as white, the ground is normally grey, and water is dark. In winter, snow-covered ground will be white, which can make distinguishing clouds more difficult.

Can we remove clouds?

Researchers from the University of Osaka have shown that now it is possible to remove clouds from satellite photographs thanks to AI.
 

What does DN mean in GIS?

The generic term for pixel values is Digital Number or DN. It is commonly used to describe pixel values that have not yet been calibrated into physically meaningful units.

The sensor turns the energy into a voltage, which an analog to digital converter turns into a single integer value (called the Digital Number, or DN) for the energy. Alternatively a digital detector can store the DN directly.
 

What is DN in Landsat?

DN: this is an integer with the amount of energy detected by the satellite. Unitl Landsat 8, these were typically 8 bit bytes which could store 256 values. They are now most commonly a 16 bit unsigned integer, with the potential for 64K values. Landsat 8 acutallly used 12 bits, and Landsat 9 uses 14 bits.
