The Urals are among the world’s oldest mountain ranges, dated at 250 to 300 million years ago. They were formed during the Uralian orogeny due to the collision of the eastern edge of the supercontinent Euramerica with Kazakhstania.

What type of plate boundary formed the Ural Mountains?

The Urals are the result of the convergence of two ancient plates into one single plate (the Eurasian plate). An ancient ocean once between those two plates closed, and, in fact, we can find pieces of crust from the bottom of that ancient ocean caught up into the Ural mountains.
