What’s it made of? A little bit of everything, really. Igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary rocks all jumbled together, kind of like a geological potluck. The recipe? Mostly feldspars, quartz, and pyroxenes. And here’s a fun fact: compared to the oceanic crust and the mantle below, the continental crust is actually enriched with elements like uranium. Think of it as the Earth’s way of hoarding the good stuff. All this adds up to an average density of about 2.83 g/cm³, and that density increases as you go deeper.
Then we have oceanic crust, lurking beneath the waves. This stuff is much thinner, generally clocking in at a mere 5 to 10 kilometers (a measly 3.1 to 6.2 miles).
