How do I reduce the size of a GeoJSON file?

To simplify GeoJSON files, we recommend using the free tool Mapshaper and following these steps. Moreover, it can be automatically applied in HTTP, the common protocol for sending and receiving JSON. Let’s take the JSON produced with the default Jackson options and compress it with gzip.

How do I edit a large JSON file?

JSONBuddy provides support for huge JSON and text data (multi-GB) to view and edit those documents directly in the application. Regardless of the size of your input data, the application will only use a small amount of memory to view the file content. Open and browse big JSON text. Run well-formed syntax checking.

Is JSON good for large files?

There is no hard limit defined by JSON specification, so there is practically no limit on the maximum size of a JSON file. It can be as long as the space is demanded by the contents to be stored. So, in conclusion, with these modern tools, it is noncontroversial to assume that there would be large JSON files.
