What is geodatabase topology?

In geodatabases, topology is the arrangement that defines how point, line, and polygon features share coincident geometry. For example, street centerlines and census blocks share common geometry, and adjacent soil polygons share their common boundaries.

How do I fix topology errors in Arcgis?

Fixing topology errors

  1. Open the Error Inspector and search for errors, or click the Fix Topology Error tool.
  2. Click the error in the Error Inspector list or use the Fix Topology Error tool to click it on the map.
  3. Right-click the error in the list or on the map and click one of the available fixes.

What is topology rules in Arcgis?

Topology rules allow you to define those relationships between features in a single feature class or subtype or between two feature classes or subtypes. Topology rules allow you to define the spatial relationships that meet the needs of your data model.

How do I create a topology rule in Arcgis?

Create a topology using the Create Topology wizard

  1. In the Catalog pane, right-click the feature dataset to which you want to add a topology and click New > Create Topology.
  2. Name the new topology and specify the cluster tolerance.
  3. Check the boxes of the feature classes that will participate in the topology.

What are topology rules?

Geodatabase topology rules and fixes for polyline features

  • Must Be Larger Than Cluster tolerance.
  • Must Not Overlap.
  • Must Not Intersect.
  • Must Not Intersect With.
  • Must Not Have Dangles.
  • Must Not Have Pseudo Nodes.
  • Must Not Intersect Or Touch Interior.
  • Must Not Intersect Or Touch Interior With.

What are the 3 main components of a geodatabase?

The geodatabase contains three primary dataset types:

  • Feature classes.
  • Raster datasets.
  • Tables.

How do I check my topology?

Using ArcGIS to check topology

  1. Right click on the geodatabase and choose New > Feature Dataset.
  2. Name the dataset ISO_topology (e.g. usa_topology). Click Next.
  3. Select the Geographic Coordinate System > World > WGS 1984. Click Next.
  4. For the vertical coordinate systems, leave as . Click Next. Click Finish.

How do you validate topology in ArcGIS?

Validate topology

  1. On the Edit tab, in the Manage Edits group, click Error Inspector . The Error Inspector table appears.
  2. On the toolbar, click Validate . Features in the current map are validated against all topology rules defined in the source geodatabase. Tip:

How do I check topology errors in ArcGIS?

Quote from video:

What is the difference between map topology and geodatabase topology?

Unlike geodatabase topologies, map topologies are not stored permanently or represented as layers in the map. Map topologies have no rules and there is no validation process. The tools and commands for validating topology and fixing errors are disabled in the Topology toolbar when you work with a map topology.

What are topology in GIS?

A GIS topology is a set of rules and behaviors that model how points, lines, and polygons share coincident geometry. For example: Adjacent features, such as two counties, will have a common boundary between them.

Where is topology stored in a geodatabase?

Within a geodatabase, where is a topology stored? x In a feature attribute table.
