How to use GDAL command line Windows?

Step 4: Testing the GDAL install

  1. Open the Windows command line, by going to the Start Menu -> Run ->Type in cmd and press Enter.
  2. Type in gdalinfo –version.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. If you get the following result, then congratulations your GDAL installation worked smoothly!


How to use GDAL from command line?

Under windows, open the command prompt (type cmd in start if you can’t find it), and type the Gdal command you want to use. If it says the command is not recognized, ‘gdalinfo’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
 

What does gdal_translate do?

The gdal_translate utility can be used to convert raster data between different formats, potentially performing some operations like subsettings, resampling, and rescaling pixels in the process.

What is the difference between gdal_translate and Gdalwarp?

Fundamental difference is that gdalwarp can reproject rasters between different coordinate reference systems but gdal_translate can’t. With gdal_translate it is more straight forward to translate data between the supported raster formats gdal.org/drivers/raster/index.html.
 

Can you script in CMD?

A CMD script does the same thing as if you typed commands into the CMD window. If you want to do something on a regular basis, such as telling Windows to turn off your computer after an hour, you can write a script and then you can activate the script whenever you want to run it.
