FROGG TOGGS Ultra-Lite2: Your Budget-Friendly Rain Savior (But Don’t Expect Miracles)

FROGG TOGGS Ultra-Lite2: Your Budget-Friendly Rain Savior (But Don’t Expect Miracles)

Review

Okay, let’s face it: rain gear can be ridiculously expensive. Nobody wants to drop a ton of cash just to stay dry. That’s where the FROGG TOGGS Ultra-Lite2 rain suit waltzes in, promising waterproof protection without emptying your wallet. I decided to give it a whirl, and here’s the lowdown.

First impressions? The price is a steal. Seriously, it costs less than some umbrellas I’ve seen! And yeah, it actually is waterproof… mostly. I recently found myself on what I’ll generously call a “hiking expedition” (translation: I got hopelessly lost) when a sudden downpour hit. The Ultra-Lite2 kept me dry at first, which was a major win. Plus, this thing is seriously lightweight. You could cram it into your backpack, glove box, you name it, and barely notice it’s there. Breathability? Not bad for the price. I didn’t feel like I was marinating in my own sweat, which is always a good sign.

But here’s the kicker. That featherlight material? It feels… well, delicate. I definitely wouldn’t count on this suit for any serious off-trail adventures. Case in point: during my “expedition,” I had a close encounter with a thorny blackberry bush, and I swear I heard the fabric scream. Luckily, no rips, but my confidence took a hit.

FROGG TOGGS Ultra lite2 Carbon Medium

And the fit? Let’s just say it’s “generous.” I ordered my usual medium, and it felt like I was auditioning for a Michelin Man commercial. Sure, there’s plenty of room for layering, but you might also feel like a windswept marshmallow. The elastic cuffs and waist help a bit, but don’t expect a custom-tailored experience.

So, the final verdict? The FROGG TOGGS Ultra-Lite2 rain suit is a decent choice if you need cheap, light, and packable rain protection for light duty. Think baseball games, dog walks, or stashing it in your car for emergencies. It’s a great “better safe than sorry” option. But, if you’re planning any hardcore outdoor escapades or need something that can handle some abuse, you’re better off investing in something sturdier. This one’s more of a “fair-weather friend” – reliable in a pinch, but not exactly built to last.

My rating: Three out of five stars.
