Durango Westward: A Classic Western Boot with Modern Comfort? (Review)
ReviewAlright, let’s get down to brass tacks: Western boots. I’ve got a soft spot for them, ever since that crazy summer I spent wrangling (mostly imaginary) cattle on a Montana ranch. There’s just something about that classic Western style that gets me. So, naturally, I jumped at the chance to check out the Durango Men’s Westward Western Boot in that sharp-looking Bay Brown.
First Glance:
These boots definitely look the part. The full-grain leather has that authentic Western vibe, and the Bay Brown color? Spot on – goes with practically everything. The stitching looks tight, and the whole boot just feels… well, solid. You get the feeling they can take a beating.

Comfort: The Real Test
Now, here’s where things get interesting, because let’s face it, some Western boots are about as comfortable as walking on rocks. Durango makes a big deal about their “Advanced Comfort System Footbed” and the “X-Pand System” designed to make getting them on and off easier. And you know what? They actually deliver. I’ve wrestled with enough stubborn boots in my time to appreciate anything that simplifies the process. Seriously, the X-Pand System is a game-changer.
The mesh lining is a nice touch, too. It helps your feet breathe, which is crucial, especially in warmer weather. I haven’t exactly put them through a full day of hard labor (more on that later!), but just kicking around the house, they feel pretty darn good. Plus, the square toe gives your toes plenty of wiggle room – no cramped piggies here!
Built to Last?
The construction details are promising. That “Littleway stitch” thing and the double row sole stitch? Good signs. The fiberglass shank should provide decent support. And a slip-resistant rubber outsole is non-negotiable for any boot claiming to be practical, especially if you’re like me and occasionally find yourself navigating questionable terrain.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind:
Okay, no boot is perfect. That 1 ½” stockman heel might be a little low for some die-hard traditionalists who prefer a higher heel. Also, while that full-grain leather looks amazing, the real test is how it holds up to some serious wear and tear. Only time will tell if it can handle the rough stuff.
The Bottom Line:
The Durango Men’s Westward Western Boot seems like a winner for anyone who digs the Western look but doesn’t want to sacrifice comfort. The X-Pand System is a legit selling point, and the construction seems solid enough for everyday wear. I can’t speak for full-on ranch work yet (stay tuned!), but for a comfortable and stylish boot that won’t empty your wallet, the Durango Westward is definitely worth a look.
Who’s gonna love these?
- Anyone who appreciates a classic Western style.
- Folks who prioritize comfort in their everyday footwear.
- People who are tired of wrestling with their boots.
And who might want to pass?
- Those who need a super heavy-duty work boot for the toughest jobs.
- People who absolutely must have a high heel.
My Final Take:
A solid boot with a good balance of style, comfort, and practicality. I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars. I’ll be back with an update after I’ve had a chance to really put them through their paces!
