What data format does Worldclim use?

The data are stored in ZIP (compressed) files. There is a ZIP file for each combination of resolution/format and climate element (mean, min, and max monthly average temperature and monthly total precipitation), the bioclimatic variables, and altitude. The ZIP files have names like X_R_F.

What is the resolution of bioclimatic variables in Worldclim?

There are also 19 “bioclimatic” variables. The data is available at the four spatial resolutions, between 30 seconds (~1 km2) to 10 minutes (~340 km2). Each download is a “zip” file containing 12 GeoTiff (. tif) files, one for each month of the year (January is 1; December is 12).

How is Worldclim data generated?

The data layers were generated through interpolation of average monthly climate data from weather stations on a 30 arc-second resolution grid (often referred to as “1 km2” resolution).

How do I download Worldclim?

Download WorldClim Data Go to http://www.worldclim.org/ and follow the links to your dataset of interest. For this example we are using current global climate data, so we would follow the “Current” link (http://www.worldclim.org/current/ ).

What is a climate proxy record?

These proxy data are preserved physical characteristics of the environment that can stand in for direct measurements. Paleoclimatologists gather proxy data from natural recorders of climate variability such as corals, pollen, ice cores, tree rings, caves, pack rat middens, ocean and lake sediments, and historical data.

How do you get climatic data?

Additional Data Access

  1. Climate.gov. The NOAA Climate.gov web portal provides science and services for a climate-smart nation.
  2. Drought.gov. The NOAA Drought.gov web portal provides an integrated drought monitoring and forecasting system at federal, state, and local levels.
  3. Climate Models.
  4. Satellite.
  5. Climate Data Records.

What are the bioclim variables?

The bioclimatic variables represent annual trends (e.g., mean annual temperature, annual precipitation) seasonality (e.g., annual range in temperature and precipitation) and extreme or limiting environmental factors (e.g., temperature of the coldest and warmest month, and precipitation of the wet and dry quarters).

What is 2.5 min resolution in KM?

about 4.5 km

This page has future climate data at a 2.5-minute spatial resolution (this is about 4.5 km at the equator).
