Can you intersect a raster with a polygon?
Summary. It is sometimes necessary to determine the areas where the attributes of a raster layer intersect a polygon layer. In studies involving multiple attributes and covering massive acres of land, the intersecting areas may provide helpful information.
Can we use line clipping for polygon?
Line clipping against a polygon is widely used in computer graphics such as the hidden line problem. A new line-clipping algorithm against a general polygon is presented in this paper. The basic idea of this algorithm is to change the line to be clipped into a horizontal line by shearing transformation.
How to cut polygon features along the boundary of existing polygons?
Procedure
- Select both polygons.
- On the Editor toolbar, set the ‘target layer’ to the layer containing the polygon to be cut.
- Set task to Cut Polygon Feature.
- Set the snapping environment to the polygon to be cut.
- Trace that polygon or right-click and select Replace Sketch. Finish Sketch on the cut polygon.
Why is polygon clipping difficult?
Polygon clipping is particularly difficult because it is necessary that closed polygons remain closed. Clipping a polygon can result in several disjoint polygons. Typical algorithms include the Sutherland–Hodgman and the Weiler–Atherton clipping algorithms.

- Use value as NoData : if checked, set the value for NoData pixels (e.g. pixels outside the clipped area);
- Output name prefix : set the prefix for output file names (default is clip );
What is the difference between clip and extract by mask?
Clip only does a rectangular area (envelope) however extract by mask will extract to an irregular/multipart/doughnut polygon. If you want only the data in an extent use clip, it’s much faster, but if you need to trim to an irregular shape then use extract by mask.
