What is the difference between dynamic map service and feature layer?

A feature service, similar to a map service with dynamic layers enabled, also provides the functionality to dynamically customize the feature’s symbology on the client’s end. The difference between a map service that supports dynamic layers and a feature service is the editing capability.

What is the difference between layer and feature layer?

The basic difference, as Dana indicated, is that the feature class is the data itself and the layer is a representation of the data in a map, with specific symbology, labels, etc. The layer defines how you want the data to look.

What is the difference between a feature layer and a feature class?

Feature layer storage

The feature class contains geographic features, such as buildings, parcels, cities, roads, and earthquake epicenters, and attribute information about the features. The feature layer is a part of the map or scene, and the map or scene is stored in the project.

What are dynamic layers?

Determining which layers will appear in a map, layer symbology, layer order and position, labeling, and more, can be achieved through the use of dynamic layers. In this way, dynamic layers can increase the amount of interaction that users have with your maps.

What are the 3 layers of GIS?

GIS has five layers, which are spatial reference framework, spatial data model, spatial data acquisition systems, spatial data analysis, and geo-visualization.

What is the difference between WFS and feature service in ArcGIS?

The WFS client support in ArcGIS allows you to access these services over the Internet and add a WFS layer to your maps. The OGC Web Feature Service is an open specification for serving geographic features over the web that returns actual features with geometry and attributes.

Are feature layers raster?

Raster layers are layers but they are not feature layers, and there are many other types of layers that are not feature layers.

Is a shapefile a feature layer?

csv files, shapefiles, map notes, and sketches can be added directly to a map. These are considered feature collection layers in the map. Any feature collection you add can be saved as part of the map.

Is feature class the same as shapefile?

Quote from video:

What is a dynamic map service?

Dynamic is considered an “older” way of displaying web maps, where each feature is called from the source data and drawn separately for every pan and zoom. Tiled base maps are cached from global scale to a scale of 1:9,000.

What is a dynamic map service ArcGIS?

Description. This sample demonstrates adding a map that is drawn by the server each time the user zooms or pans. Such a service does not have a cache of tiles and is called a dynamic map service layer. In the ArcGIS JavaScript API dynamic map services are represented by ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer.

What is feature layer GIS?

A feature layer is a grouping of similar geographic features, for example, buildings, parcels, cities, roads, and earthquake epicenters. Features can be points, lines, or polygons (areas). Feature layers are most appropriate for visualizing data on top of basemaps.
