How to extract elevation data from dem QGIS?

Method

  1. Ensure that DEM and 2d_zsh line layer files are opened, and the Point Sampling Tool plugin has been installed (Plugins >> Manage and Install Plugins >> Point Sampling Tool)
  2. Convert line vertices to points, using the preferred method described in the QGIS Convert Lines to Points page.
  3. Open the Point Sampling Tool.

To work with DEMs, you should use QGIS’ all-in-one DEM (Terrain models) analysis tool.

  1. Click on the menu item Raster ‣ Analysis ‣ DEM (Terrain models).

  4. Also make sure that the Mode option has Hillshade selected.

  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. Load the DEMs files you want to filter.

  4. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Contouring.
  5. Click the Create Contours button.

  7. Type a value in the Contour Interval text box.

An equation you can use that relates map scale expressed as a representative fraction (1/x), DEM cell resolution, and map display resolution is: 1/x = 1 / (DEM cell ground size [cm/cell] × map pixel density [pixels/cm]), so that 1 centimeter on the map represents x centimeters on the ground.
