What is a world file in ArcGIS?
A world file (WLD3) is a text file containing four points that describe a coordinate transformation. The points are used to calculate two vectors that define the offset, scale, and rotation of coordinates within the assigned spatial reference.
What is meant by world file?
A world file is a six line plain text sidecar file used by geographic information systems (GIS) to georeference raster map images. The file specification was introduced by Esri, and consists of six coefficients of an affine transformation that describes the location, scale and rotation of a raster on a map.
How do I use JGW in AutoCAD?

- Select the JPG file you wish to insert.
- If the JGW was found, you’ll see World File Correlation set in Correlation Source and values for the Insertion Point.
- Click Next again on the Modify Correlation Values window.
What is JPW file type?
JPEG world file used by geographic information system (GIS) applications; stores the location, scale, and rotation of a map that is saved as a JPEG image; used for associating raster map images with world locations, such as for aerial satellite photographs.
What are the 4 types of files?
5 types of document files
- Portable document format (PDF) A PDF file is a common file type in many work environments.

How do you go about Georeferencing a scanned image?
From the Georeferencing toolbar, click the Layer drop-down arrow and choose the raster layer you want to georeference. Click the Georeferencing drop-down menu and click Fit To Display. tools to move the raster dataset as needed. To see all the datasets, adjust their order in the table of contents.
How can you tell if a file is georeferenced?
Move the mouse cursor to find the pixel at or near the upper-left corner of the image. Check the displayed X/Y coordinate values. If the coordinate values are 0,0 (or close to 0,0), the image file is probably not georeferenced.
