How do you calculate the area of an object?

Area is calculated by multiplying the length of a shape by its width. In this case, we could work out the area of this rectangle even if it wasn’t on squared paper, just by working out 5cm x 5cm = 25cm² (the shape is not drawn to scale).

What the formula used to calculate the area of a regular object?

Area and Perimeter Formula Chart

Figures Area Formula Variables
Area of Square Area = a2 a = sides of the square
Area of a Triangle Area = 1/2 b×h b = base h = height
Area of a Circle Area = πr2 r = radius of the circle
Area of a Trapezoid Area = 1/2 (a + b)h a =base 1 b = base 2 h = vertical height

How do you find the area of a shape with different shapes?

To find the area of an irregular shape, we first break the shape into common shapes. Then we find the area of each shape and add them. For example, if an irregular polygon is made up of a square and a triangle, then: Area of irregular polygon = Area of Square + Area of Triangle.

What are the 2 formulas for area?

Area Formulas

Figures Formula Variables
Rectangle Area = l × w l = length w = width
Square Area = a 2 a = sides of square
Triangle Area = 1 2 bh b = base h = height
Circle Area = π r 2 r = radius of circle

How do you find the area of a 3d object?

Surface area is total area on the surface of a three-dimensional shape. To find the surface area of a cuboid which has 6 rectangular faces, add the areas of all 6 faces. Or, you can label the length (l), width (w), and height (h) of the cuboid and use the formula: surface area (SA)=2lw+2lh+2hw.

What are the basic area formulas?

Basic Geometry – Area Formulas

  • Area of a Rectangle = Base × Height.
  • Area of a Square = Base × Height.
  • Area of a Square = s2
  • Area of Triangle = ½(Base × Height)
  • Area of Parallelogram = Base × Height.
  • Area of Trapezoid = ½(Base1 + Base2) × Height.
  • Area of Circle = π(radius)2 = πr2

How can you find the volume and area of an irregular object?

If the object has an irregular shape , the volume can be measured using a displacement can . The displacement can is filled with water above a narrow spout and allowed to drain until the water is level with the spout. As the irregular object is lowered into the displacement can, the water level rises.

What is surface area of an object?

To recall, the surface area of an object is the total area of the outside surfaces of the three-dimensional object i.e, the total sum of the area of the faces of the object. It is measured in terms of square units.
